Does Volvo sell them in the US? It's a 10 year old design but I love it so far

Yes it's sold over here. In fact, it was probably made for us! Big fattened up SUV, V8 and all. This started the downward spiral for Volvo, and it began to displace wagons over here.

I love the XC90... it is just too big and has bad fuel economy... The design is virtually timeless, it just looks classy. I do think however the black on black is a bit overkill...

This is coming from a 2012 S60 owner btw...

We love the XC60 too, but really want the V60 when it arrives.

They REALLY need to replace this IMO. Against rivals from Germany it's a dinosaur now. I think the replacement is coming in the next 3 years.

Yup. Got a good relationship with Volvo. I'll be getting a go in the new 4-cylinder T6 super/turbocharged S60 when it comes out.

I hadn't driven any Volvo until 2 months ago (ever) but seriously impressed

Next year in Europe. It'll have all their new safety tech

The V8 engine is nice, but the vehicle itself is rather beige (Disclaimer: Lives in Sweden).

We went to drive the A4, C250 (and C300), 328i, and the Infiniti G37... the Volvo was just the best. Best interior. Best price. Best engine specs... the only thing it didn't win was steering, which has to go to the BMW... but it cost $12000 more.

Inexplicably still selling. It seems strange that this thing has been on sale without any changes, not even minor styling tweaks, for more than 10 years. On the other hand, the fundamental design is very good. We have one and love it. Even if the exterior is a bit dated, it gives up nothing to its rivals in interior features, and the clean older design is superior to many current overstyled interiors, in my opinion.

I think Volvo stumbled into something interesting here. How many other models were updated or discontinued before they really needed to be, to their detriment? I'm looking at you, Acura TSX.

That Yamaha V8 was/is a peach. Wish it found its way into more things besides these and the S80.

Y'know, if you wanted to do a 240 V8 swap the right way and keep it all OEM, that would be a sweet project. Nothing like the plug & play small block swap jobs. You can barely google "modified volvo" without tripping all over those.

And at least one person actually did do that swap:

But tucking with balleriffic wheels, so -100 Oppopoints. Otherwise DO WANT.

It's had a few tweaks, namely taillights and grille, but very subtle. Taillights went from two circles in a field of red for turn and reverse lights to the "waterfall" shape with the reverse and turn signals on the inside, for instance. (I'd post pictures if I weren't on my phone)

Right, but even those modifications were more minor than usual for the industry. None of the lenses even changed shape. The headlights are different now due to the march of technology, but again, the shape has never changed. I doubt Volvo has had to change their steel stamping forms since the first day of production. Pretty remarkable longevity for a mainstream car.

Isn't this the same V8 from the late 90s Taurus SHO?

Well the bigwigs from Ford, Volvo and Yamaha all claimed they were different, but there are obvious similarities.

Both 60º vees, both all-aluminum construction, both 32-valve, DOHC, both meant for transverse application. The Volvo unit was a full liter bigger, though.

Some version of the later Volvo engine was what went into the Noble M600 but with twin turbos, and - I might be wrong about this - a 5.0L version is going to be used in Volvo's V8 Supercars S60 efforts.

Why would they make multiple 60-degree V8's? Even if they are different engines, I'm sure they share quite a bit. The same engine family. Like, say, GM's LS engine series.

Another example is the Expedition and a Navigator. Some differences but largely the same.

It'd be fun to see a 4.0 60-degree V8 swapped in a SHO though.
